The BOAT International Design & Innovation Awards acknowledge everything from the naval architecture, styling, innovation and engineering of today’s superyachts, to the changing demands of owners and the increased portfolio of technology. The awards include a Lifetime Achievement Award honouring a designer who has made an indelible impression on the industry.

Young Designer of the Year contest is a section of the Design & Innovation Awards event and take part into the Superyacht Design Festival. The 2020 edition, was is Cortina d’Ampezzo, Italy.

The Young Designer of the Year Award celebrates the original concepts of student and trainee designers from around the globe. This highly regarded award tasks young designers with a realistic client request to challenge their ideas, technical ability and aptitude for delivery. Young Designer of the Year 2020 task asked entrants to design a refit yacht and provide guidance for the owner on how the yacht should be modified to make it suitable for future lifestyles. Proposals for a new internal layout, internal design style, and substantial changes to update the exterior appearance of the yacht were all required.
